Welcome to the Polished Profession Series!
I see countless posts on the community pages where I live now, and back home, that there are “NO JOBS”. Polished Plan is here to help you find them in your area. I have developed my own strategies to finding jobs, that I want to share with you.
I am NOT being paid for any of these suggestions, just using my own experience.
Here are some suggestions on finding your next profession:
- Glassdoor.com. I really like this website because not only does it showcase jobs in your area, there are actually a couple of really useful additional components to the site. You can look at reviews of other current or former employees that worked at the company you are interested in. Sometimes you can even find salaries of the position you are applying to. Another part of Glassdoor that I like is that people can rate and write about interviews. Some people share questions that they were asked during the interview. I would not recommend relying on the questions that are shared on this site to be the only ones you study. You may not even be asked the same questions. However, they would be good ones to know the answer to just in case.
- Indeed.com. This is a great site to find your next job or career. This is where I found my first college job! You can search by part-time, full-time, salary estimate, and more!
- Community Pages. While I would not recommend posting that you need a job, there ARE employers from time to time that will post “seeking computer specialist that wants to work from home” and that’s when you comment that you’re interested. A community page is a Facebook page for your community. For example the two I follow are “community of Maple Valley Wa” and “community connect Kittitas County”
- Check out the job postings in your local university career center. Another option is to figure out when the next job fair is being held at your local university (or in town). All you have to do is look the part, bring the right papers with you, and visit any table that is offering a position that you feel is right for you and your goals.
